Picture this: cruising down scenic roads, windows down, music up, heading to, through, and around Greenville County, South Carolina. Located at the base of the Blue Ridge Mountains, it's time to get out there and see some of the amazing things that Greenville offers. Here's your road trip itinerary—a guide detailing how to see all the sights and experience the best of #greenvillesc. Remember, it’s not just a road trip; it’s a journey packed with surprise and delight and unforgettable moments that will live on in your photo albums for years to come!
You’re on track to have the day of a lifetime! Start your day at the BMW Performance Center in nearby Greer with a little speed in place of your morning coffee. We recommend the two-hour Performance Drive, where you can experience riding in several different BMWs. Take the wheel of a BMW X vehicle on a challenging off-road course; then, head to the track and rotate vehicles, driving each through fast straightaways and tight corners. When you’re done, hop on I-85 South toward Greenville—just watch your speed!
Once you’ve hit downtown, everyone will enjoy the food, shops, galleries, and more that await you on Main Street—particularly along the 1.5-mile stretch spanning from Fluor Field at the West End to the Hyatt Regency Greenville. Starting at the northern end, a true classic is Mast General Store where you’ll find old-fashioned candy and games, men’s and women’s fashion, toys, camping equipment, and all kinds of wonderful surprises. Also on Main Street is Greenville Gemstone Mine where you can partake in gem-mining or shop the largest selection of unique sterling silver jewelry in the Upstate!
Remember: Keep an eye out for the nine bronze Mice on Main while you’re here!
As you make your way south on Main Street, you can’t miss Falls Park on the Reedy—it’s quite literally the center of our downtown and offers so much to see and do! Enjoy Shakespeare in the Park, take a walk along the river and enjoy the ducks, relax on a shaded bench and watch the world go by, or venture to artists’ studios at Art Crossing @ RiverPlace and explore paintings, photography, crafts, and other offerings.
Stroll just a little farther down Main Street and you’ll cross into the city’s West End. This bustling part of town is a destination all its own. You’ll be able to check out the Shoeless Joe Jackson Museum & Baseball Library (Saturdays only), catch a glimpse of the acclaimed Fluor Field, and grab a quick picture with Shoeless Joe himself—he’s memorialized in bronze right outside the stadium next to some gigantic baseballs! If you’re lucky enough to be here for a Greenville Drive game, we promise that you’ll have a ball!
From Fluor Field, head over to Unity Park for your next stop. Assuming the weather is perfect (as usual), make your rounds to the splash pad and playgrounds, then hit up The Commons, where you’ll find food by GB&D, Bake Room and Automatic Taco, and caffeinated drinks by Methodical Coffee. For a different kind of refreshment alongside the Reedy River, stop by Pangaea Brewing Company or The Community Tap Trailside. When you're full and feeling good, hop onto the Prisma Health Swamp Rabbit Trail and take a stroll over to the Swamp Rabbit Café & Grocery—home to the best bread in the region (Stecca!).
You’ll need to go back to the car for this one, but once you’re buckled in, just head toward the mountains. Be sure to explore Travelers Rest and some of their great restaurants, but don’t get too full—you’ll want to save your appetite for the next stop: Restaurant 17 at Hotel Domestique!
While feeling like your own little corner of Europe, the foothills surrounding Hotel Domestique provide quick access to all kinds of recreational opportunities. Partake in a round of golf at Cherokee Valley Course Golf Club (complete with Finn Cycle electric scooters—a cool and fun step-up from a golf cart!) or let Green River Adventures (just across the border in Saluda) hook you up with all things kayak and enjoy a paddle-driven adventure. Book your Green River Adventures guided tour now!
If you still have time, there are a few more local gems that you won’t want to miss—especially if you're a history buff! The Poinsett Bridge is a mere ten-minute drive from Hotel Domestique and is a great spot to enjoy Mother Nature at her best; the bridge is South Carolina's oldest surviving bridge, built in 1820. Campbell’s Covered Bridge, the last remaining covered bridge in South Carolina, is twenty minutes away. Another option: Lace up your hiking shoes and make the thirty-minute drive to Caesars Head State Park for incredible hiking and gorgeous views. The park’s overlook provides an incredible vista with views reaching into Georgia and North Carolina—the perfect place to catch the sunset.
